Celebrity Misfires Blame After Minneapolis Shooting
In the aftermath of a brutal shooting in Minneapolis, a well-known celebrity misstepped, quickly attributing blame to Rosie O’Donnell in a way that many found inappropriate.
This isn’t O’Donnell’s first foray into public controversy. She has openly criticized supporters of former President Trump, notably after relocating from the U.S. to Dublin, Ireland, to distance herself from his presidency.
“When I saw the news about the Minnesota shooting, it took me back to Columbine in 1999. It was hard to comprehend the mindset of students capturing these moments on their phones at school. This was different—it was a church, specifically a Catholic school,” she remarked.
“And what do you know? You were just a white, Republican, MAGA supporter. You’re a white supremacist,” she continued.
However, O’Donnell soon recanted her statements, acknowledging her mistake. “I sincerely apologize to the MAGA supporters for linking the school shooter to you—it was incorrect,” she stated in another selfie video.
“I realize many were hurt by the video I made before I took off for a few days. To this day, I haven’t seen it online, and yes, I admit, I didn’t do my homework before making those comments,” she reflected.
Even after this realization, O’Donnell indicated that she still believes most shooters fit a specific mold that aligns with her earlier assumptions about the Minneapolis shooter.
“I thought, like many do, that shooters typically follow a certain pattern—the familiar ones, you know, the gun enthusiasts who often support the NRA. And I also recognize when I’m wrong, and, honestly, it infuriates me.” She expressed her frustration, hinting at a bartender’s comments made in jest.
Additionally, host Pat Gray raised points about the situation. He noted, “The perpetrator is not a Republican; he identifies as trans and, in fact, is part of your own community.” Gray added, “Those truly struggling often express themselves in troubling ways, regardless of their background.” He concluded by emphasizing the underlying issues at play, stating, “The reality is, they often grapple with mental health challenges.”
