Zohran Mamdani invites President Trump to a public debate

Mamdani Challenges Trump to Debate

Zoran Mamdani, the leading candidate for mayor, is urging President Trump to engage in a public debate. This challenge follows Trump’s recent focus on topics related to the New York City race.

At a press conference, during which ex-governor Andrew Cuomo called out for dialogue regarding Mamdani multiple times, the candidate pushed back. “Let’s skip the middleman. Why discuss Trump’s opinions about dolls when we can talk directly to him?” Mamdani stated to the press.

Having recently won against Cuomo in the Democratic primary, Mamdani further accused Trump of attempting to meddle in the election, claiming they’ve had conversations regarding the mayoral contest.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that the White House is considering possible actions with the current administration under Mayor Eric Adams and GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa, which could change the dynamics of the race.

Mamdani positioned himself clearly, suggesting that if Trump is sincere about impacting the election, he should come to New York and directly address concerns for struggling residents—specifically about benefit cuts. “Why are we prioritizing tax breaks for the rich over helping hungry New Yorkers?” he questioned.

The administration has yet to reply to requests for comments regarding these claims.

Earlier in the day, Cuomo took a jab at Mamdani during interviews, emphasizing the need for public debate. “New Yorkers deserve answers. I challenge him to five debates, one in each borough, to tackle local issues,” he asserted.

However, Mamdani responded by informing voters that he will only participate in the two official debates arranged by the city’s Campaign Finance Committee in October. “I won’t get caught up in the media circus,” he remarked.
