NFL Season Kickoff Features Laurin Taze Singing

Laurin Taze performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing” ahead of the first NFL game of the season, where the Philadelphia Eagles faced off against the Dallas Cowboys.

Since the public’s reaction to George Floyd’s death, the NFL has included this song—often referred to as the Black National Anthem—during significant moments like the Super Bowl and the opening games.

During the NBC broadcast, viewers caught sight of a message in the end zone at Lincoln Financial Field that read, “We all need it.” Taze’s performance sparked quite a reaction online.

Notably, the NAACP has been promoting “Lift Every Voice and Sing” since 1917 as a Black Anthem, which still surprises many fans.

As Taze finished singing, she received a standing ovation from the audience. It was her first time at Lincoln Financial Field, and she expressed her excitement about being part of the Eagles’ community, saying she had become a huge fan over the years.

Reflecting on the experience, she shared, “I’m very excited and honored. I really want to feel the pulse of the city, and this is my first real experience as a dedicated Eagles supporter.” The energy in the stadium undoubtedly added to the thrill of the night.
