Jasmine Crockett’s shocking defense of offenders: ‘They are simply trying to survive’

Jasmine Crockett, a Texas Democrat, has stirred some controversy with her defense of crime, suggesting that poverty plays a significant role in pushing individuals towards criminal behavior. In a recent interview with the “grounded” podcast, she stated that people often commit crimes out of sheer necessity, emphasizing that they are “literally trying to survive.” She further argued that pursuing certain crimes offers no real benefits.

Crockett made it a point to clarify that while poverty doesn’t guarantee criminal behavior, there is indeed a link between the two. She shared her insights from her experiences as a public defender, saying, “And this is what I know as intimate and personal.” She stated, “Just because you’re in poverty doesn’t mean you’re going to be a criminal,” but acknowledged how tough circumstances can lead to tough choices.

She mentioned Dallas County District Attorney John Cruzotto, who has made similar arguments in the past. While acknowledging that he was perhaps a bit too vocal about his views, she expressed her support for some of his policies regarding minor crime prosecutions.

Crockett emphasized that the prosecution of certain crimes, especially those stemming from a place of despair or need, seems unjustified. She commented, “It’s true, there’s no good point in doing that because a decent defense attorney will be in the defense.” Ultimately, she wants people to understand the complexities behind criminal actions, indicating that for many, these actions arise not from a malicious intent but from the need to survive.
