Accused gang member Abrego Garcia informed of upcoming deportation to a small African nation

Attorneys for the Department of Homeland Security and the ICE Bureau have informed Kilmer Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant, that he will be deported to Eswatini, a small country in Africa. This decision follows claims from Abrego Garcia regarding fears of persecution in 22 different nations.

ICE sources shared a deletion notice indicating that they officially notified Abrego Garcia of his removal to Eswatini due to his concerns about potential persecution or torture in multiple countries. The notice included the statement, “The U.S. is moving to remove you based on a final removal order,” previously designating Uganda as the removal country. However, due to Abrego Garcia’s attorney citing fears of persecution in Uganda, a change was made.

“It’s tough to take such alarming claims seriously, especially considering that you’ve suggested you fear persecution in at least 22 countries,” the ICE notice stated.

Abrego Garcia’s situation has prompted significant discussions, particularly among Democrats who are criticizing the Trump administration for denying legal processes to immigrants. After being deported to El Salvador earlier this year, he returned to the U.S. in June and is now involved in a trial concerning human smuggling linked to a 2022 traffic incident in Tennessee.

Homeland Security Secretary Christi Noem has stated that Abrego Garcia is connected to MS-13 in El Salvador and labeled him a “human trafficker, serial domestic abuser, and child predator.” Currently, he is being held at a Virginia immigration detention facility as his case progresses, with a temporary block on his deportation to Uganda imposed by a U.S. District Judge.

Chris Newman, representing Abrego Garcia’s family, has firmly rejected the accusations from the DHS, calling them untrue. He expressed deep concern over the situation, suggesting that the actions taken against his client reflect misuse of authority and violation of constitutional rights.
