Texas A&M Secures Win Against Utah Aggies
Texas A&M made a strong statement in their second game of the college football season, easily defeating the Utah Aggies by 20 points at their home ground in College Station, Texas.
A pivotal figure in this victory was defensive lineman Cash Howell, who showcased remarkable skill. In a standout moment during the second quarter, Howell succeeded in taking down Utah quarterback Bryson Burns on three consecutive plays.
On one play, as Utah was positioned at the 25-yard line, Howell pressured Burns right after a loss of six yards from left tackle Jake Ichon, leading to a setback for the offense.
Following that, Howell’s aggressive play continued as he charged past Ichon again, dropping Burns for another loss, forcing Utah into a tough situation on fourth down and ultimately a punt.
Howell reflected on his performance humbly, admitting that after besting Burns for the third time, it felt a bit surreal. “It was sort of unexpected, but definitely satisfying,” he mentioned.
When asked which of the three sacks stood out to him, Howell didn’t wait long to respond. “The second one,” he said confidently. “It felt like I really got him then.”
Coach Mike Elko highlighted the impressive pass rush, noting Howell’s performance was truly exceptional. “It’s tough to top what he did today,” he remarked.
With a career total of 15.5 sacks now, Howell’s previous season was rather modest with just four. His best season was in 2023 when he achieved 9.5 sacks while playing for Bowling Green.
Interestingly, Howell became the first player since Jack Schic of the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2015 Holiday Bowl to record a sack on three straight plays, a noteworthy achievement for any defensive player.
