How alarming!
Author Stephen King has made a bold claim that supporters of Donald Trump may eventually deny voting for him, despite their previous loyalty.
The 77-year-old writer of “Carrie” shared his thoughts in an interview with The Sunday Times, suggesting that Trump’s base could distance themselves from the president they once supported.
“There are tremendous stories of claim and memory around the world,” King noted. “Thousands insist, ‘I witnessed Bobby Thomson’s famous home run.’ But only about 5,000 were actually present.”
“So I think the opposite is going to happen with Trump. In 20 or 30 years, when I’m gone and people look back, many will say, ‘I never voted for Trump.'”
In response, the Trump administration dismissed King’s assertions, attributing them to his fiction-writing background.
“Stephen has been focused on fiction for so long that it’s understandable he might miss reality,” stated White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson in comments to Fox News Digital.
During the conversation, King expressed strong disapproval of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, comparing them to themes in 20th-century literary works.
“If I had written this storyline in a novel back in 1965, it would have likely been regarded as far-fetched, akin to something you’d find in ‘Animal Farm,'” he remarked, referencing George Orwell’s classic.
King further elaborated on his concerns about current immigration practices, describing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as “armed individuals, masked and heavily funded, present everywhere.”
After years of vocal criticism against Trump, King candidly shared his apprehension about the notion that many of his readers might actually support the president.
“I realize that. There haven’t been any formal boycotts, you know?” he acknowledged.
“I believe I have a duty to share my thoughts clearly. It’s really a matter of, as the saying goes, ‘Which side are you on?'” the author concluded, echoing sentiments from Pete Seeger’s song.
