The Houston Texans are headed to face the Los Angeles Rams as 3-point underdogs, in a game expected to score at least 43.5 points. Both teams clinched their divisions last season with a 10-7 record, although the Texans lost to the Chiefs and the Rams fell to the Eagles. There’s a lot of talent on both sides, yet there are vulnerabilities that could potentially undermine their seasons—not that it would be shocking.
Last season, the Texans really struggled with their offensive line, and unfortunately, it appears that this issue is persisting into the current season. Their star running back, Joe Mixon, had a standout year, rushing for over 1,000 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns. But, he’s currently sidelined with foot injuries for at least four weeks. This has pushed Nick Chubb, a former star with the Browns, into the starting role. Chubb’s performance last season was less than stellar, especially after he returned from another knee injury. It’s possible he’ll improve over time, but, being 29, there might be questions about whether he can regain his former level of play completely.
Next, we’ll dive into what to expect from Nick Chubb in fantasy football for the first week.
Fantasy Football Analysis: Texans, RB, Nick Chubb
The Rams’ run defense struggled last season, but they bolstered their roster by adding Poonaford this offseason. This should make them at least above average. On the other hand, the Texans have one of the league’s weakest offensive lines. Chubb isn’t often involved as a receiver, so he’ll need to find lanes between the tackles to make an impact. The starting role involves goal-line opportunities, and with a talented receiver like Nico Collins on the team, there’s a chance for Chubb to get some short touchdowns as well.
Will you start or sit in the first week of a PPR league?
sit. It doesn’t look promising for Chubb in terms of yardage or receptions in this matchup. His usage might be just enough for deep flex spots, but it’s uncertain if he’ll be worth an end zone start.
Are you starting or sitting in the standard league in the first week?
start. Chubb is a bit safer in standard leagues. The potential for short touchdowns makes him more valuable in a non-PPR format. It’s not entirely out of the question to see significant use; Joe Mixon, for example, scored 12 touchdowns last season, although Mixon was arguably ahead of Chubb at this stage in their careers.
