Gen Z provides social media training for millennials

Kids seem to be schooling the older generation these days.

There are subtle ways millennials can stand out—like flashing peace signs while wearing ankle socks or pausing dramatically when taking videos.

One Gen Z individual, though, is not just pointing out the issues; they’re offering to help.

“I believe it’s time for a ‘Millennial Bootcamp’,” suggested Janelle Fuhrare. “I’m part of Gen Z, and I’m here to guide us on what’s right and wrong, including social media manners.” Her TikTok clip has racked up nearly 700,000 views.

That definitely feels like a challenge.

So, what’s at the top of the list to help millennials fine-tune their online presence? Changing the fonts on Instagram.

“These fonts are absolutely the worst. No one should use them,” she expressed.

Fuhrare lamented, “We don’t even say ‘slay’ the right way anymore—it’s entirely sarcastic.” She snapped her fingers for emphasis, declaring, “This is literally the new ‘killer.'”

As for certain phrases, she pointed out, “Things like, ‘I’m dead,’ or ‘I’m screaming’ have become a real cliché.”

Millennials reacted in various ways to her commentary. Some jotted down notes, while others cheered animatedly.

“Social media etiquette?! We are the originators of it!” one quipped.

“Seriously, we’re in our 40s. We can’t be bothered with fonts,” another added.

“Gen Z is way too fixated on us,” a third noted.

“Honestly, the idea that Gen Z thinks we care about these things… people are dealing with much bigger issues,” was the sentiment from another.

Gen Z and millennials may joke about age differences, but they share a struggle—neither can easily afford friendship.

The financially pinched 20-somethings and their millennial counterparts often can’t splurge on social outings, yet they still make it happen.

A survey revealed that three out of five young adults admit that spending on social activities impacts their financial goals, while 69% prioritize in-person interactions with friends every week.
