Media Under Fire for Ignoring NC Train Stabbing

Criticism Over Media Coverage of Stabbing Death in North Carolina

Several media outlets faced backlash for their lack of coverage regarding a stabbing incident on a North Carolina train that resulted in the death of a Ukrainian woman. Critics included Senator Ted Cruz, Elon Musk, and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, who were among many expressing discontent with NPR, CNN, and other networks for not reporting on the fatal attack.

Earlier reports revealed that DeCarlos Brown Jr., age 34, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska in the throat while on the Charlotte Light Rail on August 22.

As per WBTV News, Brown’s actions were documented on video that captures both the stabbing and its aftermath. The footage reportedly shows him seated in front of Zarutska before he stood up, took out a pocket knife, and attacked her.

“The corporate media is fundamentally corrupt,” Cruz remarked on social media, condemning their inaction in covering the story.

Musk, in a brief comment, noted the absence of coverage by stating “Zero,” while Bukele questioned the media’s commitment to reporting, suggesting that they don’t just dislike the media enough.

Kari Lake, a senior adviser at the U.S. Global Media Agency, expressed her disdain for mainstream media, commenting on their failure to address the incident adequately.

Another critic raised questions about the media’s apparent indifference, particularly given the ties to issues like Ukraine and immigration.

Additional voices have noted the troubling nature of the attack and the media’s reluctance to confront the uncomfortable truths it reveals, calling for a shift towards honesty in reporting.

According to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, Brown has a criminal history dating back to 2011, with records showing past charges related to theft and robbery.

Charlotte Mayor VI Lyles expressed gratitude toward media partners and community members for not spreading the footage of the stabbing after the Charlotte Area Transit System released it. “We appreciate those who chose not to share the heartbreaking video in honor of Iryna’s family,” she stated.
