Trump Discusses Potential Gaza Hostage Deal
On Sunday, President Donald Trump hinted at an upcoming agreement aimed at securing the release of hostages held by Hamas. This follows his earlier declaration, which he labeled as the “last warning.”
After arriving in the Washington area from a short trip to New York, Trump addressed reporters and mentioned that he had been discussing the situation during the flight.
“We’re working on a very good solution,” he stated, without delving into specifics. “We’ll hear about it soon. We’re about to finish it. We’re trying to get the hostages back.”
Earlier that day, Trump cautioned Hamas, urging them to accept the terms laid out, though he didn’t specify what those terms were.
“The Israelis have accepted my terms, and it’s time for Hamas to do the same,” Trump posted on his social media platform. “I warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting it. This is my last warning and there will be no other warning!”
In response, Hamas conveyed that they had received some proposals from U.S. mediators and were contemplating how to refine these ideas to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. However, they did not provide further details regarding any potential deals.
Hamas emphasized that they would engage in negotiations to release all hostages in exchange for a “clear announcement of an end to the war” and a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the region.
Trump expressed optimism about the return of all hostages, saying, “I think we’ll get all of them,” while also acknowledging that some may already be deceased, but the objective remains to recover their bodies.
On Saturday, reports from Israeli N12 News indicated that Trump had suggested a fresh ceasefire proposal to Hamas. This agreement would have Hamas release all 48 remaining hostages on the first day of the ceasefire in exchange for a substantial number of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel, along with negotiations to conclude the war during the ceasefire.
