Insights on Gen Z’s Success Priorities
It seems there’s been some talk about how Gen Z, particularly young women, view success. Yet the commentary has been overshadowed by various memes and cultural references. According to a recent analysis by NBC News, there are distinct priorities emerging from this demographic.
Data analyst Steve Kornacki shares that fulfilling work and career opportunities rank highest for young women who supported Kamala Harris in the last presidential election. Following that is the desire for financial freedom—essentially, having the means to pursue personal interests. Emotional stability comes in third place, which is perhaps, well, a bit more abstract.
Interestingly, among liberal women aged 18-40, there’s a noticeable trend—many are reporting lower satisfaction with their lives. A survey from 2024 reveals that only about 12% of liberal women claim to feel “completely satisfied,” contrasted sharply with 37% of their conservative counterparts.
Now, emotional stability might not directly correlate with happiness. Some might argue that finding that stability could be a complex mix of personal choices and external factors like wellness activities or, maybe, even medication. Still, it’s evident that fulfilling work plays a key role in their weekly well-being.
When reflecting on what liberal women want regarding financial independence, it’s quite telling. Less than 10% consider marriage and having kids vital to their success, and an additional 19% include community pride in that definition. It raises questions about the societal expectations they navigate.
Shifting gears to male Trump supporters, the landscape looks pretty different. “Having a child” is at the forefront of their personal success narratives, with 34% emphasizing its importance. Economic independence, job stability, and marriage also hold significant weight for them.
This survey undoubtedly paints a more intricate picture of how different political and social backgrounds influence the aspirations of young individuals today.
