Ryan Clark in Hot Water Again
Ryan Clark is still facing scrutiny.
Dave Portnoy, the head of Barstool Sports, criticized Clark’s behavior after he publicly challenged ESPN reporter Peter Schrager during a discussion about the NFL.
During Friday’s “Get Up” show, Clark dismissed Schrager’s opinion, bluntly stating, “It’s your non-player,” which led to considerable backlash from Schrager, who insisted Clark shouldn’t “disregard” him. Then, on Monday, Portnoy weighed in.
Dave Portnoy of FS1 stated, “Ryan Clark, one of the greatest jerks ever in human history—he is a race baiter. You can say that.”
Portnoy remarked, “Ryan Clark went after Peter Schrager. They were analyzing the game. Clark is really one of the biggest jerks I’ve ever seen. He stirs racial issues, and in my opinion, it’s unjustified.” He hesitated, wondering if his words were too harsh, but seemed firm in his views.
Clark has been unfiltered about race-related topics in sports, often collaborating with Robert Griffin III. He previously sparked debates regarding WNBA players Caitlyn Clark and Angel Reese. In May, he made comments questioning RG3’s ability to discuss certain racial issues due to his marriage to a white woman, which caused a stir.
“When did you have the opportunity to have those conversations at home?” Clark asked during a discussion about how different experiences shape perspectives on race.
Later, he apologized for those remarks.
This new incident involving Schrager has triggered another apology and seems to have escalated tensions behind the scenes at ESPN.
Clark may be facing consequences; there’s speculation he could be on “thin ice” at the network after his recent public missteps.
Both Clark and Schrager appeared on “NFL Live” together on Monday, but the conversation remains fraught with tension.
