Incident at Jewelry Store in San Jose
An 88-year-old jewelry store owner in San Jose, California, had a stroke on Friday when a group of thieves vandalized his business, part of a troubling trend seen in Democratic-run states over the past few years.
This unsettling event happened at the Kim Hun Jewelry Store on Aborn Road. Reports emerged on Monday detailing the incident.
Surveillance footage shows the elderly owner standing near the counter when a vehicle crashes into the front of the store. Almost immediately, a group of thieves, dressed in black, storms in wielding a hammer, shattering the glass display cases.
During the chaos, one of the robbers pushes the older man to the ground as others continue to grab what they can. They flee upon hearing the commotion outside.
Authorities stated that at least one suspect was armed during the robbery. Sources indicated that the elderly owner sustained injuries, including glass cuts, and suffered a stroke as a result of the assault.
He was treated at a hospital but has since stabilized and is recovering at home.
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan expressed his outrage, stating, “This is horrifying. My blood boiled when I saw this senior being assaulted. These people need to face the harshest consequences of their actions. I will contact the police chief and follow the investigation closely.”
Damage to the store is estimated to be between $50,000 and $100,000.
In response to the incident, community activists gathered outside damaged businesses to demand an end to the rising crime against small enterprises.
Similar occurrences have been reported in California businesses recently. In one instance earlier this year, a worker at a jewelry store in El Monte managed to deter suspicious thieves himself. There was also news of a Southern California man who developed unbreakable glass that thwarted another robbery attempt in Sherman Oaks.
This episode in San Jose coincides with discussions about expanding crime-fighting efforts, sparked by recent comments from former President Donald Trump about deploying a “crime suppression” team in various cities.
