Detroit Clothing Store Burglary

The owner of a clothing store in Detroit reported that a burglary resulted in the theft of $90,000 worth of merchandise in just five minutes on Monday morning. According to local news, WDIV-TV, this harrowing incident occurred early at his business.

Waheed Ahmed, who has owned J-Bees on Gratiot Avenue for 26 years, mentioned, “The police were already here when I arrived, but the damage has already been done. The product is gone.” He expressed his concerns about the impact of such crimes on community efforts.

He noted that security footage captured the event, showing a group of thieves arriving in both a white minivan and a black pickup truck around 4:49 AM. The video revealed multiple individuals quickly exiting the vehicles.

By 4:53 AM, they had already smashed windows and doors, forced open a security gate, and ransacked the interior, destroying display mannequins and breaking into the back office before making their escape at 4:56 AM.

Dee, the store’s general manager for the last 15 years, commented on how swiftly the thieves operated, stating, “They moved quickly. They seemed to know exactly what they were after.” He believed that such incidents are becoming frequent and likely part of a larger pattern.

Dee also mentioned that this was the second brutal robbery the store had faced within the same year, expressing a suspicion that the criminals may have scoped out the premises beforehand.

He remarked, “When you’re engaged in a community, trying to introduce high-quality brands and build relationships with customers, the effect of these crimes is devastating. You find yourself asking: will we close the doors or keep going?”

Ahmed reiterated his love for the neighborhood and his desire to remain there, reflecting that he has witnessed generations of customers. However, he emphasized that the crime situation is making it increasingly difficult to sustain the business.

Authorities confirmed that detectives arrived on-site later that afternoon to gather evidence about the robbery.

Given the extensive damage and the value of the stolen goods, Ahmed estimated his losses could reach around $200,000, even with insurance considerations.
