Mark Hamill Expresses Embarrassment Over Trump’s Elections

Actor Mark Hamill has voiced his feelings of “real embarrassment” regarding the two elections of former President Donald Trump, describing himself as a “minority” in America.

In a recent episode of the podcast WTF with Marc Maron, Hamill shared his thoughts, saying, “The first time he sneaks up on me is one thing. When he gets re-elected, it’s on top of us. That’s what I’m really embarrassed about because I always thought there were more decent Americans, honest Americans than the others. It proved me wrong. I’m in a minority in my country.”

These sentiments coincide with the feelings he expressed after Trump’s reelection in November 2024. He remarked on X, “They say they get the right leader for us. It’s just disproveable, or this is not America we all thought we lived in.”

During his chat with Maron, Hamill recalled filming the Disney Star Wars sequel amid the 2016 election—a time he found particularly embarrassing. “It was strange because it was the first time we were doing one of the sequels that Hillary was running against him. And then the British crew would come over to me and say, ‘Mark, why do Americans love Donald Trump so much?’” He added that he couldn’t find anyone who supported Trump.

Hamill previously had a somewhat amused view of Trump, recalling, “I thought he was funny to me when I lived in New York. He was a clown.” But he began questioning Trump’s approach when he famously challenged Barack Obama’s birthplace, stating, “It’s interesting because it was his first foray into politics and he got a great response from it.”
