Trump Addresses Israeli Strike in Qatar
President Donald Trump has made it clear that the decision to conduct a military strike in response to Israel’s attack on Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, “is not a decision” made by him.
In a post on True Social, Trump remarked that the “unilaterally bombing” of Qatar, which has “worked very violently and bravely” to mediate peace between Israel and Hamas, does not align with the goals of the U.S. or Israel. While he acknowledged that “eliminating Hamas” is a “valuable goal,” he expressed regret about the strike given Qatar’s status as a strong U.S. ally.
“This morning, our administration received word from the U.S. military that Israel was attacking Hamas, which was, unfortunately, located in part of Doha,” Trump stated. He stressed that this was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, not by him, and it was not right to bomb a close ally’s territory.
He continued, “However, eliminating Hamas is a worthy objective, as they have brought immense suffering to the people in Gaza. I immediately instructed my special envoy, Steve Witkov, to inform Katalis of the impending attack.”
“I view Qatar as a strong ally and friend of the U.S., and I feel very bad about the nature of the attack,” Trump added. “I truly hope we can release all hostages and bring an end to this conflict!”
Trump mentioned that he had a conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the strike in Doha, during which Netanyahu expressed his desire to pursue peace.
He noted, “I believe this unfortunate incident could present an opportunity for peace. I also communicated with Qatar’s Emir and the Prime Minister, thanking them for their support and friendship towards our country. I assured them this cannot happen again on their territory.”
According to reports, the explosion occurred in Doha on Tuesday, although no formal explanation was provided.
Notably, Hamas leaders are known to reside in Doha, living in luxury accommodations.
In the wake of the airstrike, Qatari officials confirmed that a building housing several Hamas members was attacked, denouncing the strike as a “criminal assault” and a “blatant violation of international law.”
Netanyahu stated, “Today’s actions against Hamas’ top terrorist leaders were executed independently by Israel. Israel initiated it, carried it out, and will take full accountability.”
