Rep. Nancy Mace’s Response to Recent Violence
Representative Nancy Mace from South Carolina announced her intention to carry a firearm again, especially following the recent shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
“Once I’m home, I’ll start carrying again, wherever it’s permitted. I usually have firearms in other states,” she remarked.
Mace pointed out that the $15 million allocated by Capitol Police for member safety translates to about $5,000 per lawmaker each month. She noted, “For those members of Congress who are more visible, $5,000 isn’t much. Personally, I’m not wealthy—so, I take extra safety precautions.”
Currently, she mentioned having overlooked an outdoor event and requested local police continue to patrol her office in South Carolina.
She attributed the rise in political violence to the left, despite objections from some Democrats who publicly condemned Kirk’s shooting on social media. “If you hold differing opinions from the left, they seem to want to silence you. That’s a reality, and it should be reported,” she stated.
Mace emphasized that Kirk fostered discussions on politics and engaged younger audiences in crucial debates. “Charlie Kirk was assassinated. He was killed because of his beliefs. Democrats are calling for a national conversation, yet Kirk was having one peacefully,” she said. “He excelled in educating people across various backgrounds and was targeted for doing what the Democrats want us Republicans to do. It’s frustrating.”
Leaders like former President Trump and Vice President Vance have expressed grief over Kirk’s death, who was a vocal supporter of Trump. Trump announced plans to award Kirk posthumously with the Medal of Freedom, while Vance facilitated transporting Kirk’s remains to Arizona on Air Force 2.
Vance reflected on their shared skepticism of Trump back in 2016 that evolved into support, stating in an X post, “Like me, he recognized President Trump as the only leader capable of shifting American politics from globalism.”
Kirk reportedly assisted in appointing a veterinarian to the Trump administration and temporarily moved to Palm Beach, Florida, to aid in staffing efforts. “Much of our success during that administration can be traced back to Charlie’s organizational skills,” Vance noted. “He didn’t just support the 2024 campaign; he helped staff throughout the government.”
