TMZ Hosts Apologize After Awkward Laughs During Serious Coverage
Harvey Levin and Charles Latibeaudiere from TMZ issued an apology after an unexpected burst of laughter occurred during a livestream covering the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
The pair described the timing of the reactions as “terrifying” and stressed that the team wasn’t celebrating Kirk’s death. They acknowledged that a separate incident at the office led to the laughter, taking full responsibility for the unfortunate moment.
On social media, Levin and Latibeaudiere addressed the situation directly, apologizing profusely and providing some context. “When we were following the assassination story, we were away from the news desk and heard laughter and applause from elsewhere,” Levin remarked, visibly shaken.
He added, “I know the people involved, and they didn’t find this incident funny. Their reactions weren’t about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.” Levin mentioned how inappropriate it was to laugh during such a serious moment.
Latibeaudiere echoed these sentiments, reflecting on the situation and reiterating their apology, expressing concern over the timing of the reactions.
“It’s a tough situation, and I admit it was really inappropriate,” Latibeaudiere said.
Levin also conveyed, “I didn’t laugh at Charlie Kirk’s tragedy—you can trust that.” He explained he had stepped away from the broadcast to find out what was happening, stating, “It was inappropriate for laughs at that moment, regardless.” His tone, while apologetic, seemed to wrestle with the awkwardness of the situation as he concluded, “We truly apologize for how it sounded.”
