Reactions to the Assassination of Charlie Kirk
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her grief over the tragic killing of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. She referred to it as “a deep wound for those who believe in democracy and freedom.”
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Meloni commented on the shock surrounding the murder, describing Kirk as a young and influential figure within the Republican community. She extended her sympathies to his family, loved ones, and the conservative circles in America.
Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini also shared his thoughts, remembering Kirk as a devoted family man and patriot who was only 31 years old. He noted, “He was killed in a public meeting while defending his idea,” calling such violence unacceptable. “It’s terrible. No one should die like this,” he added.
Reports indicate that Kirk was fatally shot during what appears to be a politically motivated attack at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
The news of Kirk’s assassination prompted an outpouring of respect and condolences, including a statement from former President Donald Trump. He described the incident as a “dark moment in America,” stating, “Charlie has inspired millions. Everyone who knew him is united in shock and fear.” Trump acknowledged Kirk’s commitment to debate and his passion for the United States.
“He was a fighter for freedom, democracy, and justice,” Trump continued, highlighting Kirk’s deep faith and his influence on young people. The president also remarked on the growing violence stemming from the demonization of opposing viewpoints, asserting the need for a change in this harmful rhetoric.
On Thursday morning, the FBI’s Salt Lake City office released images of persons of interest related to Kirk’s assassination, appealing to the public for assistance in their investigation.
