'The View' responds to the shooting involving Charlie Kirk following Meghan McCain's caution.

In light of a stern warning from former “The View” co-host Meghan McCain, the talk show’s current host addressed the recent shooting of Charlie Kirk. Whoopi Goldberg described the situation as “over the catastrophic” during Thursday’s episode, shortly after McCain tweeted about the need for action, stating, “If my former colleague had even three brain cells left, they would realize they should do something decent for the millions of grieving conservatives in this country.”

Goldberg didn’t confirm if she’d seen McCain’s tweet, but she mentioned, “I was shot and killed yesterday on a campus in Utah.” She posed the question, “Isn’t it a fundamental part of being Americans that we can express opinions without fear?”

Continuing the discussion, she remarked, “It’s not about left or right; it’s about people being targeted because of their beliefs.” Alyssa Farah Griffin shared her condolences for Kirk’s wife, Erika, and their two young kids, stressing the importance of recognizing each other as fellow Americans, despite differing views.

Sarah Haynes highlighted the irony of Kirk, known for his series “Proof Me Wrong,” who often engaged with those who opposed him. “When we stop talking, that’s when things get worse,” she reminded everyone, adding that political violence has no place in society. Griffin emphasized that the shooting shouldn’t dictate how individuals express their viewpoints, regardless of their political stance. Goldberg backed this sentiment, encouraging young Republicans to remember they have a voice.

John Bear reflected on troubling times from history, recalling past assassinations from the 60s. Joy Behar commented on the trauma resulting from the shooting, saying, “We’re in a traumatic period right now. But we’ll get through this, like before.” Kirk, just 31, was tragically shot during the first stop of his “American Comeback Tour,” and he died shortly after, allegedly shot from a rooftop nearby.

In the immediate aftermath of Kirk’s tragic death, reactions came pouring in from various celebrities. “He was murdered for having a different opinion,” Charlie Sheen remarked on a podcast, while Stephen Colbert expressed concerns about the implications of political violence, calling it an abomination and hoping it wasn’t a sign of what’s to come.
