Rep. Jasmine Crockett likens ICE to slave patrols in an MSNBC interview

Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s Controversial Remarks on ICE

On Sunday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) made headlines by equating Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to “slavery patrols.” During an interview on MSNBC, she asserted that white supremacists are responsible for murders at a rate five times higher than that of illegal immigrants.

“As someone who understands history, when you look at ICE, you can see the parallels with slave patrols,” Crockett told host Ali Velshi.

In a related discussion, she referred to the tragic case of Kayla Hamilton, a 20-year-old woman murdered by MS-13 gang members, calling her death “randomly dead” during a hearing on Wednesday. In her interview with Velshi, she proceeded to downplay the significance of crimes linked to immigration.

Crockett has also defended the Democratic rhetoric labeling former President Trump as a “Wannabe Hitler,” particularly following a recent shooting incident.

Interestingly, she pointed out that the immigrant community hasn’t widely acknowledged the issues surrounding illegal immigration, noting that one immigrant mentioned an illegal status. She mentioned concerns about safety, emphasizing that law enforcement should rely on “data and facts.” Yet, she still drew connections between current policing practices and historical slave patrols.

Recent ICE reports indicated that, as of 2024, there are about 13,000 convicted murderers within their records, alongside 1,845 pending murder charges. The agency also noted that around 662,566 illegal immigrants have some form of criminal history.

In another noteworthy development, the Supreme Court recently lifted restrictions on immigration raids in Los Angeles, permitting federal agents to use broad criteria, including language, for questioning individuals.

Crockett, known for her controversial statements, previously clashed with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) during a heated exchange where she commented on Greene’s appearance in a rather colorful manner.
