FBI investigating potential ‘wider network’ that assisted Charlie Kirk shooter Tyler Robinson

FBI investigating potential 'wider network' that assisted Charlie Kirk shooter Tyler Robinson

On Monday, the FBI revealed suspicions that Tyler Robinson, accused of murdering Charlie Kirk, might have had assistance from what they term an “expansion network.” This suggests there were, perhaps, several warning signs leading up to the tragic event.

As previously reported, authorities have been investigating connections between Robinson and a pro-trans online group, along with others who might have known about his intentions regarding the murder.

This group includes communities from gaming platforms like Steam and Armed Queers SLC.

The investigation is focused on determining if Robinson, who is 22, had any assistance from others, including possibly those present at the event in Utah.

Bongino noted that the bureau is exploring whether Kirk’s murder is part of a larger trend and whether anyone who knew details might have provided help, financially or otherwise, to those involved.

“We’ll be issuing numerous subpoenas to uncover any expansion network,” Bongino mentioned.

Kirk, a prominent conservative figure, was shot in the neck during an event at Utah Valley University. Robinson was apprehended about 33 hours later, following the transition of his boyfriend.

Bongino raised the question of whether there’s a link between the shooter’s motivations and discussions surrounding mass shootings involving trans individuals, stating, “We are looking into this.”

“I can’t definitively say there was a connection at this point,” Bongino added, acknowledging that Kirk often faced these sorts of questions. “But we are reviewing it.”

During a recent family gathering, Bongino recounted a conversation between Robinson and a relative that included their shared disdain for Kirk.

Bongino pointed out that “multiple warning signs” indicated Robinson’s troubling descent into radical thought. His social circle included politically inclined friends and family.

Nonetheless, there are still questions regarding how Robinson became radicalized. Evidence from the shell casings suggests a connection to pro-trans and anti-fascist beliefs.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox indicated that Robinson had become “deeply indoctrinated by leftist ideology,” despite not aligning with any political party, noting he held a strong aversion to Kirk’s viewpoints.

Robinson’s boyfriend, who is transitioning, shares their lives, but it remains unclear if this relationship influenced Robinson’s political stance.

Authorities have been cautious about disclosing the exact reasons behind Robinson’s animosity towards Kirk. Bongino described the suspect as having shown a “degree of obsession” towards Kirk based on his digital activities, labeling the crime an “ideologically motivated attack.”

The FBI director mentioned that Robinson engaged in text exchanges with someone who expressed a desire to eliminate Kirk due to ideological hatred.

Additionally, similar sentiments were found in handwritten notes. Although these notes were destroyed, the bureau retains evidence of their existence, with Robinson having stated, “I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to do it.”

The FBI has not yet clarified the status of the handwritten notes or their specifics.
