Senator Edgar Flores Arrested for Falling Asleep While Driving
Nevada Senator Edgar Flores was taken into custody on September 12 for reportedly dozing off while at the wheel of his vehicle.
A video, shared by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Public Records Unit on YouTube, shows Flores jolting awake after an officer knocked on his car window.
“I definitely wouldn’t recommend driving when you’re that tired. It was entirely my fault,” he stated. “I should’ve realized that driving while fatigued can be pretty dangerous. Thankfully, I just fell asleep, but it could’ve turned out much worse, like hitting another car or something.” I mean, that’s a real possibility.
Attempts to obtain comments from Flores were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
In a statement issued by the Democratic party, it was shared that Flores had been suspended early Friday after a long day full of work, community engagements, and evening activities. He voluntarily underwent both a breathalyzer test and a blood test at the station, after which he was released.
During the incident, Flores noted that he had consumed beer earlier in the day.
As for the DUI charges, to date, no official charges have been filed against Flores, according to current reports. There were indications that he declined to participate in preliminary breath tests and standard field sobriety tests, but the specifics around that remain unclear.
Contact with the Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas yielded no comments on the matter as of Wednesday.
“The Senator acknowledges his fatigue. While he respects the work law enforcement does to ensure safety, our team is currently reflecting on whether his rights and privacy were adequately respected,” the social media statement declared.
In closing, it was emphasized that Senator Flores has dedicated over a decade to serving his community as a congressman, senator, and immigration lawyer.
