State Dinner Hosted for President Trump and Melania

During a speech at the Royal National Banquet at Windsor Castle, President Donald Trump highlighted the “transcendent” relationship between the United States and Britain, stating that “together, we have done more for humanity than any two nations in all history.”

On Wednesday evening, President Trump and First Lady Melania were guests at a grand banquet at Windsor Castle, marking a significant occasion in the venue’s 1,000-year history. King Charles III welcomed attendees with a speech and a toast, setting the stage for President Trump’s remarks.

Trump expressed admiration for the British, noting that such sentiments are typical among modern leaders in Britain, reinforcing that the two nations share a bond aimed at benefiting the world.

In his address, President Trump took a moment to appreciate his hosts, addressing the royals directly.

He then spoke about the historical significance of the UK, referencing literary greats like Shakespeare and Dickens, and emphasized that one-fifth of humanity has roots on these islands. He praised the British contributions to the world, including the Magna Carta and the evolution of modern governance.

“The British people have provided the world with foundational ideals of law, freedom, and individual rights that continue to resonate today,” he remarked.

Trump continued to elaborate on the “special” relationship between the UK and the US, underscoring that their connection is intricately woven through history, culture, and shared values.

“The term ‘special’ hardly does justice to our bond,” he stated, describing it as one of kindness and identity that is invaluable and enduring.

His comments followed the light-hearted banter from King Charles III, who welcomed the president exuberantly, prompting laughter from Trump.

“As we near the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, it’s fascinating to reflect on how our ancestors from 1776 would perceive our friendship today,” said Charles.

During the toast, King Charles wished well for the people of the United States, raising a glass to their health and prosperity. The evening’s menu featured elegant dishes including panna cotta and quail egg salad.

Although President Trump typically avoids alcohol, he was honored with a selection, including a 1945 port, to commemorate his presidency along with a cognac that honors his Scottish heritage.

Following the banquet, the Trumps were set to stay overnight at Windsor Castle before meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. They were scheduled to return to Washington, D.C. on Air Force One the following night.
