Sylvester Stallone Surprised by Kennedy Center Honor
Sylvester Stallone expressed his disbelief after receiving the Kennedy Center Honor, describing the experience as shocking and unexpected. He mentioned that this recognition wasn’t something he had planned for himself.
“It’s hard to put into words. It’s really surprising, a revelation. I mean, I didn’t see this coming. Now I’m sort of at a loss for what to do with this,” he shared with Fox News Digital.
As he prepares to write a book titled *How Rocky Did Its Ever: To the Oscars in 1969*, Stallone took a reflective journey down Memory Lane, recalling the “madness” of filming the iconic *Rocky*.
Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony Details
Stallone noted that receiving the Kennedy Center Honor at his age is somewhat hard to comprehend. “It’s not something you would speculate about. To be recognized still doing what I love is incredible,” he added.
This year, Stallone joins a notable list of honorees, including country star George Strait, the rock band Kiss, British actor Michael Crawford, and singer Gloria Gaynor. The awards ceremony is set for December, with President Donald Trump, now the chairman of the Kennedy Center, actively involved in the selection process.
Trump emphasized his involvement, stating, “I was about 98% involved… Everyone went through me.” He even mentioned he had to make tough decisions about who would receive the honor.
During the conversation, Stallone also talked about his role in *Tulsa King*, noting it allows him to reveal aspects of his true self. “This role is as close as I get to showing who I am, my real personality,” he said. He described it as a bit of an experiment.
He also acknowledged the pressure that comes with creating a show that has to live up to the legacy of the *Rocky* films. “It’s pretty nerve-wracking. It feels unsettling because you think about how to top something that was so successful before,” he mentioned, referring to the need for a strong team to deliver quality.
Season 3 of *Tulsa King* is set to premiere on September 21st on Paramount+.
