Axelrod: Trump designation of Antifa as terrorist organization will be used to target political enemies

Democratic strategist David Axelrod remarked on Wednesday that Donald Trump’s intention to label ANTIFA, a movement opposing fascism, as a terrorist organization represents a significant turning point aimed at targeting his political adversaries.

Axelrod criticized the Trump administration, suggesting it “will pursue anyone and anything that falls under that label, even though it’s not really an organized group.” He described the situation as largely mythical, presenting a convenient excuse for attacking political foes.

During his visit to the UK, Trump characterized ANTIFA as a “disease, dangerous, radical, and a deadly disaster,” likening it to a major terrorist entity.

Trump also expressed a desire for authorities to scrutinize those funding ANTIFA under strict legal guidelines, emphasizing the importance of the matter in a recent post.

Axelrod emphasized the need for the nation to take Trump “seriously,” raising concerns that his actions could significantly undermine the opposition, framing it as a pivotal moment.

His comments followed statements from Attorney General Pam Bondy, who suggested she would pursue those she deemed guilty of hate speech.

Bondy’s remarks drew criticism from several prominent conservatives, including Megyn Kelly and Rep. Thomas Massie.

Additionally, Trump indicated plans to investigate George Soros’ Public Association Foundation over allegations of inciting political violence.

Axelrod’s comments mirrored sentiments expressed by former President Obama and speechwriters from George W. Bush’s administration, who cautioned against potential threats to free speech.

Fulham warned that the next phase could involve curbing Democratic voices, while Obama noted that the current administration has escalated threats against media companies for content they oppose, reflecting a troubling trend.
