Concerns About Communication Gaps in Chicago’s Immigration Issues

During a recent discussion, ICE Director Todd Lyons expressed frustration over the lack of communication between Chicago’s Sanctuary policies and ICE regarding the removal of undocumented criminals from the streets.

Lyons addressed the situation during an appearance on a radio show, stating that while places like Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York experience similar issues, it’s disappointing to see such a lack of cooperation. Local authorities describe many of these offenders as “habitual” but express a willingness to work with ICE even without formal communication.

“We don’t have cooperation, that’s for sure,” Lyons noted. “However, we’ve been proactive in seeking out resources to ensure that these criminals are monitored around the clock, particularly when they’re released. We have specific targets in mind.” He emphasized that their approach is intelligence-driven, thanks to their access to various systems.

Lyons made it clear that ICE knows where these individuals are and won’t let Chicago municipalities conceal them. He pointed out that Illinois has established sanctuary policies under Governor Pritzker, which complicates matters further.

Operation Midway Blitz, according to Lyons, honors the memory of Katie Abraham, who lost her life in a DUI incident, highlighting the personal tragedies tied to these policies. Lyons recounted a meeting with Abraham’s father, who shared the emotional toll of losing a child to crime linked to undocumented individuals.

“He said, ‘I’ve lost my daughter. I’ll never see her again.’ It’s hard to reconcile that with officials who are more focused on pushing sanctuary policies than supporting American families affected by such incidents,” Lyons remarked, underscoring the challenges they face.
