Kimmel’s Cancellation Sparks Controversy
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s show has been canceled by Disney after remarks he made about Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist. This decision has led Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to raise questions regarding the motives behind the quick cancellation.
On Thursday, Schumer posted online, probing if Jeffrey Epstein might be a factor in Kimmel’s removal. He specifically asked, “Is Epstein the real reason Trump cancelled Kimmel?!” In his post, he included screenshots from a New York Times article highlighting how prominent late-night hosts, including Kimmel, criticized Trump through discussions linked to Epstein’s recent revelations.
Fox News Digital reached out to Schumer’s representatives to clarify his implications, but did not receive a reply in time for this report.
Nexstar Media Group, which manages numerous television stations, announced on Wednesday that it would replace Kimmel’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with different programming, due to his comments on the allegations connected to Kirk’s death.
In response to the situation, Nexstar stated that Kimmel’s remarks didn’t align with what they considered appropriate given the current political climate. They expressed that continuing to air Kimmel’s show wouldn’t serve the public interest at this point and, thus, opted to preempt it for other content.
Meanwhile, Trump commented on Kimmel’s firing while in England, suggesting it was due to what he described as “bad reviews.” He went on to say that Kimmel was let go because of a “lack of talent” and criticized the host for his comments regarding Kirk.
On social media, Trump referred to the cancellation as “great news for America,” seemingly pleased with the outcome.
The controversy traces back to a segment from Kimmel’s show, during which he remarked that conservatives were reaching a “new low” by attempting to politicize Kirk’s tragic situation.
Following this, Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Kerr commended local stations for prioritizing their community’s interests over Kimmel’s show.
