Texas Republican Comments on Kimmel’s Show Suspension
Texas Republican Representative Brandon Gill expressed his thoughts on Fox News’ “Ingraham’s Angle” regarding late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, suggesting that Kimmel’s main issues revolve around making jokes about “the assassinated person.”
ABC, owned by Disney, has decided to suspend “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” indefinitely, following Nexstar Media Group’s actions, which is a significant player in the television station industry. This move has drawn criticism from Democrats. During the show, guest host Brian Kilmeade posed a question to Gill about whether the concerns over free speech raised by Democrats were “the number one issue in America.”
“Well, it’s something that Republicans are focusing on. The real issue isn’t whether President Trump was the target of the joke; it’s about making light of an assassination,” Gill stated. He went on to mention the numerous calls for unity against political violence, emphasizing that this issue seems to be more prominent on the political left.
Gill further noted, “Polls show that a significant portion of people on the left justify political violence. About 25% of self-identified highly liberal individuals feel this way, whereas only 3% of conservatives share that belief. That’s concerning, and it illustrates a systematic problem on the left.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, Nexstar announced the indefinite removal of Kimmel’s show after his comments concerning the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Nexstar’s President, Andrew Alford, criticized Kimmel’s remarks as “aggressive and insensitive,” stating that the network’s decision was made to “prioritize cooler heads.” Soon after, an ABC spokesperson reaffirmed that the show would remain “indefinitely on hold.”
In reaction to these developments, several Democrats, including California Representative Eric Swalwell and former President Barack Obama, have accused Republicans and Trump of taking the “cancel culture” to alarming new levels.
This network decision came after Kimmel remarked that the “MAGA gang” had reached a “new low.” Late-night hosts continued to engage in discussions, with Kimmel addressing Vice President JD Vance, who had called for violence from the left. Kimmel argued that many from the MAGA crowd were taking advantage of Charlie Kirk’s murder.
Before the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is suspected in the Kirk assassination, officials found bullet casings linked to the shooting that bore writing such as “Hey Fascist! Catch!” and “If you read this, you’re a gay lmao.” Additionally, one of the bullet casings displayed imagery associated with “Bella Ciao,” a leftist anthem from World War II.
Online discussions as Tyler Robinson’s arrest progressed raised questions about his upbringing, with Republican Utah Governor Spencer Cox stating that Robinson appeared to be heavily indoctrinated by leftist ideology and viewed Kirk as a purveyor of hate. A recent poll indicated that a notable 26% of people aged 18 to 34 find it challenging to relate to others’ emotional responses now that Kirk has been killed, with 24% of Democrats echoing similar sentiments.
