Right-Wing Leaders in Europe Consider Designating Antifa as a Terrorist Group

Political leaders in Hungary and the Netherlands are taking cues from President Donald Trump’s initiative to classify Antifa, which stands for anti-fascist, as a terrorist organization.

Geert Wilders, the head of the Dutch Party for Freedom, put forth a motion urging the government to designate Antifa as a terrorist organization. This motion recently received approval from lawmakers in The Hague, as reported by European conservatives.

Wilders indicated that Trump’s stance on Antifa influenced the motion. He mentioned concerns about Antifa operating in the Netherlands, alleging that their activities involve threatening politicians, harassing journalists, and occasionally resorting to violence.

A designation of this sort would empower the government to take various measures against such organizations, including removing their websites, conducting police surveillance, and possibly placing them on a national terrorism list, according to the Dutch government.

Following the Dutch initiative, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed support for Trump’s push to label Antifa as terrorist and indicated plans to pursue similar actions in Hungary.

Orbán remarked during a state-sponsored radio program that Antifa “is certainly a terrorist organization” and stated it was time for Hungary to adopt a classification system akin to the American model.

Trump previously labeled Antifa as a “sick, dangerous, radical left-wing disaster” and called for a careful examination of the group under stringent legal standards, especially following a recent incident involving Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA.

Critics note that while Antifa lacks a formal leadership structure, it consists of various loosely organized far-left groups across the West.
