Gunfire Hits California Local News Station Building

Shooting Investigation in Sacramento

Multiple sources indicate that Sacramento officials are currently facing scrutiny following a shooting incident that occurred at an ABC10 television station on Friday.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at around 1:30 PM in the 400 block of Broadway. Executives later confirmed that the building had been targeted, as stated by CBS News.

“Details remain limited, but thankfully, all employees are safe and unharmed,” said Tegna spokesperson Molly McMahon. Tegna is the parent company of the ABC affiliate station. “We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and are taking further measures to ensure the ongoing safety of our staff.”

Initial reports suggest that the shooter fled the scene in a vehicle after firing into the building. Law enforcement has classified this as a drive-by shooting. As of Friday evening, there were no injuries reported and little information about the suspect.

This shooting comes in the wake of protests against Disney and ABC, sparked by the network’s decision to indefinitely suspend late-night host Jimmy Kimmel following remarks he made that were perceived as controversial.

Despite earlier reports that identified the 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, as being “deeply instilled in left-wing ideology,” Kimmel has continued to confront criticisms, asserting that “many are working hard to exploit” political incidents for their agendas.

Since Kimmel’s suspension, protests have erupted in various locations including California and New York, where supporters have rallied for the late-night host. Notably, some Democrats, including California Rep. Eric Swalwell and former President Barack Obama, have expressed their support, criticizing what they describe as a “cancelling culture” taken to “new and dangerous levels.”

ABC10 and the Sacramento Police Department have yet to comment regarding the incident.
