Trump Orders Military Strike Against Vessel Linked to Drug Trafficking
On Friday, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce that he had commanded a military strike on a vessel thought to be associated with a terrorist group involved in narcotics trafficking. This action was carried out in the jurisdiction of the US Southern Command.
The strike, which was aimed at a boat confirmed to be engaged in illegal drug activities, resulted in the death of three individuals tied to drug operations, according to Trump’s post. He also shared a video showing the vessel being hit and subsequently catching fire.
“Following my order, the War Secretary directed this attack targeting vessels belonging to terrorist organizations involved in drug trafficking within the US Southcom area,” he stated. He further noted that intelligence had revealed the vessel’s use of known routes for smuggling substances that are harmful to Americans.
Second Military Action Against Venezuelan Narco-Terrorists
The strike occurred in international waters, and thankfully, no US military personnel were harmed, Trump added. “The strike eliminated three drug traffickers on a boat, and importantly, did not pose any threat to our military,” he emphasized. He expressed concern over the prevalence of fentanyl and other illegal drugs and the violence they cause against American citizens.
Trump’s announcement came just days after he mentioned that the US military had conducted another strike against Venezuelan drug cartels as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.
Continued Efforts Against Drug Traffickers
Trump indicated that on Monday, he ordered the military to initiate another offensive against violent drug trafficking organizations operating in the Southcom area. “This morning, the US military launched a second targeted operation against identified, violent narcoterrorists,” he stated.
Earlier in the month, military actions were taken to dismantle drug boats linked to Venezuelan cartels, which resulted in arrests related to violent drug trafficking. In addition, the Trump administration designated several drug organizations as foreign terrorist entities, including the Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel.
