Ohio Teamsters Endorse Vivek Ramaswamy for Governor
The Ohio Teamsters have officially backed Vivek Ramaswamy for the gubernatorial race, marking a noticeable shift from their previous support for Democrats. This was recently confirmed by his campaign, according to reports.
As noted by the Ohio State Dispatch, the biotechnology entrepreneur and former presidential candidate for 2024 has already garnered the support of several unions ahead of the 2026 election.
His campaign has revealed endorsements from organizations such as the Ohio Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Association, the Central Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, as well as the Cleveland and Northwest Ohio Architecture and Construction Trade Councils.
Interestingly, while Ramaswamy has made significant strides, both the Ohio State Plant and Pipe Fitter Association and the Central Midwest Carpenters Association continue to support Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown.
Additionally, he has received backing from former President Donald Trump and the Ohio Republican Party. It’s worth mentioning that the Teamsters meeting represents over 50,000 workers, who had previously shown support for Ohio Representative Tim Ryan.
Ramaswamy’s campaign indicated that nearly $220,000 raised in the initial months came from contributions that he had previously allocated to Ryan.
He has expressed a commitment to investing at least $30 million in his campaign for the Ohio governorship.
In a statement, a Teamsters representative said, “We are proud to support Vivek Ramaswamy for governor. Our members desire leaders who advocate for good-paying jobs and bolster the future of Ohio’s workforce.” They also noted Ramaswamy’s ongoing commitment to partnering with them for tangible outcomes.
Ramaswamy expressed his gratitude for the support, emphasizing its significance. He added, “This isn’t just about partisan politics; rather, it’s a movement to restore dignity in work and give all Ohioans a fair chance at achieving the American dream.”
In this evolving political landscape, former Ohio Health Director, Dr. Amy Acton, is also regarded as a prominent Democratic contender for the governorship.
