Caitlin Clark ridicules $200 penalty for social media comments about referees

Caitlin Clark’s Response to WNBA Fine

Caitlin Clark might be sidelined during the Fever’s playoff journey, but that hasn’t stopped her from stirring the pot a bit. She shared recently that the WNBA imposed a $200 fine on her for comments made on Instagram.

The Fever’s social media team celebrated a recent victory with a post featuring the bench, captioned, “The Bench is Rockin tonight.” Clark, 23, couldn’t resist replying to that, saying, “References couldn’t stop us” and referring to her teammates as the “Elite Bench Mob.”

After learning about her fine, the potential 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year took to X for a little back-and-forth.

“I was fined $200 for this laugh,” she grinned, adding, “The bench mob will be even more violent tomorrow Goo!!!!!!!”

Caitlin’s teammate, Sophie Cunningham, found humor in Clark’s penalty, posting, “It’s really going to break the bank for her,” and jokingly suggesting, “Let’s start a GoFundMe now!”

Unfortunately, both Clark and Cunningham won’t be playing for the remainder of the season. Since July, Clark has been dealing with significant injuries and had hoped to return until she was ultimately ruled out.

After a long fight to get back on the court, she shared her disappointment on X. “I wanted to give a better update, but I’m not going back to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day and aimed to return, but it’s an understatement to say I’m disappointed,” she expressed. Clark also thanked the fans for their continuous support, noting how they brought her joy through tough times.
