Chiefs' Travis Kelce and Andy Reid share a tense exchange

Kansas City Chiefs Sideline Tension During Game

During the game against the New York Giants on Sunday night, Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce and head coach Andy Reid had what looked like a heated exchange on the sidelines after one of the half’s last drives. Kelce caught a pass for a negative gain of two yards, and the drive concluded with a missed 40-yard field goal by Harrison Butker. The NBC broadcast caught the moment when Reid confronted Kelce, giving him a shove as he exited the field.

Reid later characterized the emotions as “good,” mentioning to NBC’s Melissa Stark that “we need juice.” This isn’t the first time these two have had similar interactions, recalling a similar incident during Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.

While what exactly transpired between them remains unclear, Kelce seemed to have a tough outing in the first half. He and quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared out of sync, notably when Mahomes overthrew a pass that was well beyond Kelce’s reach. Overall, Kelce ended the half with three receptions on seven targets for just 13 yards, while the Chiefs managed to hold a narrow lead at 9-6.

Last week, Kelce faced criticism for letting go of a defender in the end zone when playing against the Philadelphia Eagles. That moment effectively squashed any chance for the Chiefs to avenge their previous Super Bowl loss to the Eagles.

In the game against the Giants, Kelce rebounded with six catches and a touchdown for a total of 108 yards. However, Kansas City had not secured a win during the 2025 season at that point.
