Teenage Conservative Influencer Reflects on Mentor’s Legacy
Charlie Kirk’s young followers are looking up to conservative figures as role models. After the tragic assassination of Kirk, a teenager named Brillin Hollyhand expressed his determination to be “big” and “bold,” even as he faces a rise in death threats.
At just 19, Hollyhand, known as the “youngest voice of rationality on the Internet,” began his public journey in 2018 when he interviewed Kirk, then a prominent conservative activist, as an 11-year-old. Since that interview, he has attracted nearly half a million social media followers, resonating with young conservatives across the nation and earning the title of an emerging leader in the movement.
In the aftermath of Kirk’s shocking death, Hollyhand stated he won’t attempt to replicate his mentor. “The Lord did what he gave me,” he remarked on a recent Monday.
Reflecting on Kirk, he shared, “Charlie has huge shoes to fill. It’s not about his physical size, but the impact he had and can’t be duplicated.” He emphasized, “I’m not aiming to be Charlie. My aim is to be Brillin and fulfill the purpose given to me. If I could accomplish even half of what Charlie did, I’d consider that a success.”
Hollyhand’s rise began with a podcast at age 11, though he encountered difficulties in securing guests. He also started a conservative political website called Truth Gazette. “Kirk didn’t have to give me the time of day, but he did and I’ve cherished that opportunity,” he reflected.
The university freshman recounted that he was in contact with Kirk just hours before the tragic shooting that occurred during the “American Comeback Tour” event at Utah Valley University on September 10th. “We just spoke that morning, and he told me he was proud of my on-air performance,” Hollyhand recalled.
Now serving as co-chair of the Republican National Committee’s Youth Advisory Committee, he is set to launch a new tour titled “One Conversation at a Time,” starting from the University of Arkansas. However, he candidly acknowledged that since Kirk’s assassination, his personal safety concerns have increased significantly. “I feel like I woke up in a different life after his death,” he shared, noting that his security measures have intensified threefold.
Despite advice from some to avoid touring due to threats, Hollyhand remains resolute. “That’s what they want, to silence us. The person who killed my friend sought to intimidate my generation, but instead, we’re rising to the occasion,” he stated passionately. “We need to be bolder and more courageous, just as Charlie lived.”
Hollyhand feels Kirk’s wisdom has shaped his path over the last eight years. He even mentioned President Trump’s recognition of him at a recent conservative gathering in Arizona. “When I once asked Kirk how to stay engaged in this fight at such a young age, he told me to keep pushing back against the challenges. I will always remember that,” he said. “They couldn’t stop Charlie; they tried to eliminate him instead.”
