Jeffries Calls for Investigation into Trump’s Border Chief

House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is pressuring the Trump administration to revisit an inquiry into the Department of Justice concerning Tom Homan, who was Trump’s border chief. Reports indicate that Homan took thousands in cash from an undercover FBI agent last year.

As investigations ramp up against Trump’s political adversaries—like Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and former FBI director James Comey—Jeffries remarked on the need for accountability, especially given the allegations of fraud linked to Homan.

Jeffries expressed concerns about Homan, who is reportedly facing scrutiny for allegedly accepting a significant cash payment in a suspected pay-to-play arrangement.

“If there’s going to be a focus on indictments or investigations, then we should start with the fact that Tom Homan seems to have accepted a $50,000 bribe,” he stated in a CNN interview on Monday. “The concern is that these accusations are being overlooked while allowing him to act against American interests.”

Homan, who has spearheaded Trump’s immigration policies, claimed he is under investigation by the DOJ from the Biden administration for taking $50,000 from an FBI agent posing as a businessman. In exchange, he allegedly promised to secure a government contract for Trump in his second term.

Senior DOJ officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel, responded, asserting that the investigation began under President Biden, which raises questions about its validity. They argued that a later review completed under Trump found no credible evidence of wrongdoing, leading to the investigation being halted.

Homan has since rejected these accusations, labeling them as unfounded.

Hours after these revelations surfaced, Trump took to his social media platform to call on U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to intensify the DOJ’s investigation into political rivals, specifically naming Schiff, Comey, and New York State Attorney General Leticia James.

“We can’t afford any delays. It’s harming our reputation,” Trump wrote. “They’ve indicted me twice—as if that isn’t enough—but now I demand justice!”

Criticizing both Trump and the DOJ, Jeffries accused them of weaponizing investigations against political opponents while ignoring potential misconduct by allies like Homan.

“This looks like a political witch hunt orchestrated by a president who thrives on revenge,” Jeffries said.

He also promised that Congressional Democrats would initiate their own investigation into Homan, asserting that “Republicans are not functioning as a separate and responsible governing body.”

“We won’t wait until we regain the majority next November,” he stated. “We will begin these inquiries now to ensure the American people are presented with the truth and held accountable for their actions.”
