Trump considers a national holiday in honor of Charlie Kirk, according to the White House.

In Washington, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt indicated on Monday that President Trump is unlikely to object to the proposal of a new national holiday dedicated to the late conservative figure Charlie Kirk.

“It’s an intriguing idea. I think he won’t oppose it,” she shared with reporters during a press briefing.

Kirk, just 31 years old, was tragically shot on September 10 while engaging in conversation with a student at Utah Valley University.

During a memorial service in Phoenix on Sunday, the 79-year-old Trump honored Kirk, describing him as “a martial artist of American freedom.”

In his eulogy, Trump expressed, “I believe I speak for everyone here today. None of us will forget Charlie Kirk, and we still have no history.”

Bills within both council chambers have acknowledged Kirk. Recently, both the House and Senate agreed on a resolution proposing a “Charlie Kirk’s National Day of Memory” for October 14.

While the House recognized Kirk as a “court American patriot,” nearly half of the Democratic representatives didn’t participate in the vote.

The federal government currently recognizes 12 national holidays, the latest of which was introduced in June 2021.

During this past June celebration, which marks the end of American slavery, Trump expressed frustration over the number of holidays that aren’t operational. “America has too many non-working holidays. These businesses are costing us billions,” he remarked.

Following Kirk’s death, authorities identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the alleged shooter, and he has since been charged with multiple offenses, including murder and obstructing justice.

Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded, has now appointed his widow, Erika, as the new CEO and chairperson. They also revealed plans to carry on the “American comeback tour,” a project that Kirk had initiated.
