At the Broadview Processing Center in Illinois, several undocumented immigrants detained there have faced convictions related to domestic violence, drunk driving, and involvement with fentanyl.
Recently, left-wing activists staged a riot outside the detention center, throwing tear gas canisters, bottles, rocks, and even fireworks, while blocking access to the facility. The protests were aimed at advocating for the rights of undocumented immigrants held in detention.
On Monday, officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) disclosed the criminal backgrounds of some of the detainees during the unrest.
“Among those detained are serious offenders, including individuals who have committed domestic abuse, drug trafficking, and drunk driving,” stated Tricia McLaughlin of DHS.
Are Governor Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson prioritizing the rights of violent criminals over the safety of their citizens? These protesters seem to be advocating for the release of rapists, murderers, and other serious offenders. Instead of rioting, perhaps they should recognize and appreciate the efforts of ICE officers working to keep our communities secure. [Emphasis added]
Several undocumented immigrants detained during the riots include Alberto Algeria Baron, who was deported from Mexico in 2014 and has multiple convictions for domestic battery.
Others, like Salvador Alcantal Alcantal, Carlos Eduardo Chavez Cardenas, and Andres Ventura Uvaldo, were also present at the facility during the protests.
Alcantal, originally from Mexico, faced previous arrests for driving violations, assault, and trespassing, while Chavez Cardenas from Bolivia had been convicted of DUI and drug possession.
Ventura Uvaldo, another undocumented immigrant from Mexico, has been arrested for felony DUI and domestic violence.
Irwin Jose Roa Mustafa, from the Dominican Republic, and ibis Alberto Testa Nunez, a Mexican national, were also in detention during the riots. Roa-Mustafa has a conviction for fentanyl distribution and pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges. Testa Nunez was previously arrested for cocaine possession with intent to distribute.
