Kamala Harris Discusses 2024 Election in First Post-Election Interview

In her first interview following the defeat in the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump, former Vice President Kamala Harris spoke with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. During the conversation, the 60-year-old Harris criticized her Republican counterparts, labeling them as “tyrants,” and addressed Trump directly, expressing her disappointment with American corporate leaders.

“I’ve spent a significant amount of time collaborating with the private sector,” Harris mentioned. “I’ve always maintained that if the industry leaders do not speak out, they risk undermining our democracy, which is fundamentally dependent on robust democratic institutions.” She pointed out that many remain silent, acknowledging her frustration with their inaction.

Harris dismissed the notion that wealthy individuals would face severe consequences, like losing their luxurious properties, if they voiced concerns about Trump. She maintained that capitalism is more successful in democratic environments than under authoritarian regimes.

She underscored the relationship between democracy and capitalism, asserting, “Democracy preserves capital. It’s in democracy that capitalism flourishes.” Harris expressed a sense of urgency, emphasizing that her references to tyranny were meant to highlight serious threats to democratic norms.

When discussing her stance during the campaign, Harris touched on the delicate position of navigating her relationship with President Biden, reflecting on the complexities inherent in criticizing his administration after encountering backlash.

Harris expressed hope that those in power would eventually champion the needs of citizens reliant on institutions that uphold integrity. She stressed that leadership requires standing up for what truly matters.

This interview coincides with the upcoming release of her new book, titled *107 Days*, which chronicles her experience stepping into the Democratic presidential candidacy after Biden withdrew from the race.
