Kamala Harris’s Controversial Claims in New Memoir
In her recently released book, former Vice President Kamala Harris suggested that President Donald Trump may have a role to play in his own second act, particularly during an upcoming golf outing in Florida set for September 2024.
In “107 Days,” Harris sought to address the hostile rhetoric directed at Trump from some Democrats, pointing to incidents that have escalated to violence. She noted that despite an indictment against Ryan Routh, an alleged would-be assassin, the criticism should extend to those opposing measures for gun control.
“Trump has blamed the campaign’s language, viewing it as a threat to democracy,” Harris writes. “He ought to have condemned the lax gun laws he supported, especially since an individual with a criminal past was found to possess a weapon, including an automatic machine gun, as per FBI reports.”
Moreover, she added that, despite public perception, Trump seemed to have no significant obstacles in obtaining a deadly weapon.
Ryan Routh, who is 57, faces multiple felony charges for allegedly planning to shoot Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, in September 2024. This incident reportedly follows a previous attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July of the same year.
Law enforcement officers discovered 19 rounds in a magazine belonging to SKS rifles, which were located near the Palm Beach Golf Course.
Routh has a substantial criminal record and, as a convicted felon, was legally barred from buying firearms. Nevertheless, he acquired a Chinese-made SKS semi-automatic rifle through two associates.
Federal prosecutors have pointed out that two residents from North Carolina struck plea deals in July for illegally aiding Routh in obtaining firearms.
Following a two-week trial, the jury’s deliberations commenced, during which Routh declined to accept public defenders. He has pleaded not guilty and could face life in prison if convicted of the most serious charges.
Harris has faced significant backlash from Republicans for her pointed comments, including calling Trump a “fascist.” In a recent interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Harris doubled down on her rhetoric, branding Trump a “tyrant” in the wake of the assassination attempt on Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Federal prosecutors assert that Routh meticulously planned to attack Trump “for a long time.” During the closing arguments, U.S. Attorney Advisor Christopher Brown emphasized, “This was not a publicity stunt. The evidence clearly indicates that the defendant wanted Donald Trump dead.”
