Jessica Chastain Critiques Apple TV+’s Delay of The Savant
Jessica Chastain has expressed her disapproval of Apple TV+’s decision to delay the release of her new series, The Savant, particularly following the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk. She stated that the show’s themes are “unfortunately” more pertinent than ever.
“I want to emphasize how much I value my collaboration with Apple. They’re fantastic partners, and I hold their team in high regard. However, I feel it’s important to highlight that the decision to suspend the release of ‘The Savant’ doesn’t align with my views,” Chastain mentioned in a social media message on Wednesday.
Just a day prior, Apple TV+ released a statement indicating that they did not reference Kirk, suggesting the delay was made “after careful consideration.” They expressed gratitude for understanding and mentioned plans to release the series at a later date.
Kirk, a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was tragically shot in Utah earlier this month.
Promotional materials for The Savant reveal that Chastain portrays a covert agent named Savant, who infiltrates online hate groups to combat some of the most violent extremism in the United States.
In her post, Chastain highlighted several instances of “unfortunate amounts of violence” that have plagued the U.S. over the last five years. These incidents included the attack on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the January 6 Capitol riots, the murder of President Trump’s fiancée Emeritta Hartman, attacks related to Nancy Pelosi, and over 300 school shootings that month alone, as reported by a local station in California.
“These examples certainly don’t encompass all the violence in the U.S., but they paint a broader picture that we must confront across the political spectrum,” said Chastain, who is 48 years old.
“I’ve always engaged with tough topics, and I wish this show weren’t so timely, but it is,” she reflected.
Chastain continued, “The ‘Savant’ highlights the work of heroes striving to prevent violence before it occurs, making its message feel more urgent than ever to honor their bravery.”
Despite her respect for Apple’s pause on the release, she hopes the series will soon be accessible to viewers.
An Apple TV+ representative did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
“In the meantime, I wish everyone safety and strength. I will keep you posted on any updates regarding ‘Savant’s’ release,” Chastain added.
