Senator Ted Cruz from Texas urged politicians on Wednesday to refrain from “deviling” in light of a violent incident at a Dallas immigration and customs enforcement office, where two detainees lost their lives and others were injured.

“This kind of violence is unacceptable,” Cruz stated during a morning press conference in Dallas where authorities provided updates on the situation. “Violence driven by political motivations is wrong.”

“To all the politicians out there—stop demonizing ICE and the CBP [Customs and Border Protection],” he added.

“We must ask all politicians to consider how their words impact ICE agents and the community,” he stressed.

Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem condemned the “unprecedented violence” facing ICE personnel while they carry out their responsibilities.

The police had blocked off I-35E near the location of the shooting as they conducted their investigation.
