The Cleveland Guardians shared an update regarding designated hitter David Frye, who suffered an injury during a game against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. Frye was hit in the face by a fastball, and, following medical assessments, it was determined that he has a broken nose and some facial fractures. The team announced on Wednesday that he’ll be sidelined for about six to eight weeks.
The Guardians stated, “Imaging and clinical testing confirms that David Fry maintains multiple minimally evacuated facial and nasal fractures on the left side.” Fortunately, he is expected to recover without the need for surgery, although close monitoring will be required during this time. They also noted that Frye has been released from the Cleveland Clinic and is currently resting comfortably.
The team expressed gratitude to those who provided immediate care after the incident.
In a tense moment during the game, Tigers pitcher Tarik Skuval accidentally struck Frye while he was preparing to bunt. After the incident, Skuval said, “It’s really difficult. I’ve reached out to him; I’m sure his phone is blowing up. I just want to make sure he’s okay. His health is what truly matters here.” He added that he hopes to hear from Frye soon.
Before this incident, Frye had shown impressive form this season, participating in 66 games, hitting eight home runs, and accumulating 23 RBIs.
