Oklahoma Superintendent Steps Down to Lead Teacher Freedom Alliance
Ryan Walters, the superintendent of Oklahoma, announced during a recent appearance on television that he is resigning from his educational post to become the CEO of the Teacher Freedom Alliance. His objective? To dismantle teachers’ unions, a move he strongly supports.
In his statement, Walters expressed a firm commitment to “destroy the Teacher Union and reclaim the school,” suggesting that he intends to take a direct approach in tackling what he perceives as detrimental influences on education.
Walters is set to officially take on his new role on October 1st. He also shared a press release outlining this transition.
Plans for Turning Point USA Chapters
In addition to his new position, Walters has plans to establish Turning Point USA chapters in every high school across the state. He believes this initiative is essential for empowering students and ensuring they are exposed to a range of ideas.
Walters emphasized a significant problem, stating that “for too long, union bosses have poisoned schools with politics and publicity.” He insists that the time has come to expose these issues and work towards reclaiming educational spaces for the benefit of students and quality teachers alike.
The president of the American Federation of Teachers responded positively to Walters’ resignation, stating that it’s a step in the right direction for students in Oklahoma. She noted that educators understand the importance of supporting teachers in order to effectively educate students, implying that Walters had not fulfilled this responsibility.
She remarked, “Today is a good day for kids in Oklahoma,” suggesting a hopeful outlook in light of these changes.
