Diver Missing Off Coast of Kauai, Hawaii
The US Coast Guard is currently involved in the search for a 44-year-old diver who went missing in the waters near Kauai, Hawaii. This diver, identified as Bryson Higashi, was last seen on Tuesday around 4:30 PM local time, close to Hanalei.
On Wednesday at 7:36 PM, the Coast Guard received a notification from officials at the Kauai Fire Station regarding the missing person. In response, they issued an urgent marine broadcast and dispatched several resources, including a 45-foot Coast Guard boat, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, and an HC-130 Hercules plane from Barbers Point. Additionally, the crew from the Coast Guard Cutter William Hart was also sent to assist in the search.
Authorities indicated that Higashi may have been free diving when he disappeared. He stands around 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds. His truck was discovered abandoned near Hanalei Bay, raising concerns.
The search efforts are being supported by the Kauai Fire Station, Kauai Police, and the Hawaii Land and Natural Resources Department. Kauai police reached out to the community, suggesting that public assistance could be crucial in locating Higashi.
As of Thursday, conditions in the area were challenging, with winds of about 15 mph and ocean waves ranging from 2 to 4 feet, which was affecting visibility significantly.
