Trump Promises to Declassify Amelia Earhart Files
On Friday, Donald Trump announced plans to fly solo across the United States while also vowing to declassify documents concerning the famed aviator Amelia Earhart, who disappeared nearly 90 years ago. In a post on Truth Social, he mentioned being asked about Earhart and her last flight.
“Amelia made the world almost three-quarters complete before she vanished without a trace. Her disappearance has captivated millions for almost a century. I’m directing the administration to declassify and release all government documents related to Amelia Earhart, including her final voyage and other associated information,” Trump stated.
Amelia Earhart, a celebrated aviation pioneer and the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, was the subject of many conspiracy theories regarding her 1937 disappearance during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe.
In July, Kimberlin King Hins, a representative from the Northern Mariana Islands, urged Trump to make these documents public. “In trying to serve my constituents, I recognized that the U.S. government might still be holding records related to Earhart’s journey and possible whereabouts,” she remarked. “If such files exist, their release would provide valuable insights into one of America’s most revered aviators and perhaps clarify the mysteries surrounding her extraordinary life.”
“Amelia Earhart symbolized America’s courage, determination, and pioneering spirit,” she added. “Yet, the enigma of her last flight continues to inspire debate and speculation nearly 90 years later.”
Since his time in office, Trump has shown interest in releasing documents associated with significant historical events, including the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.
