ICE Deports Authoritarian Cuban Judge Previously on Biden's 'Humanitarian Parole'

US Deports Cuban Judge After Controversial Asylum Request

On Thursday, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported Melody Gonzalez Pedraza, a Cuban judge affiliated with the Communist government who had entered the United States through a “humanitarian parole” program set up by the Biden administration.

Reportedly, Gonzalez Pedraza traveled from Havana to Tampa, Florida, in late May 2024. She had been granted a flight permit as part of her participation in this humanitarian initiative, which began in January 2023 and permitted up to 30,000 people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to live and work in the US for up to two years.

Upon her arrival, officials at Tampa airport denied her entry because of her history within the Communist regime. In response, she requested political asylum, but Gonzalez Pedraza lost her asylum case on May 21, 2025. She chose not to appeal the immigration judge’s decision in Pompano Beach, Florida. Reports suggest that complaints from exiled Cubans about her actions were significant in her prosecution and subsequent deportation.

The Cuban Human Rights Foundation (FHRC) indicated that Gonzalez Pedraza was recognized as a representative of the Castro government, known for imposing harsh sentences on peaceful protesters and opposition figures.

Just days before seeking entry into the US, she sentenced four young Cuban men to four years in prison, accusing them of “assault” against security forces in Villa Clara. Their families claimed they were victims of an unfair trial, lacking any evidence or witnesses to support the accusations.

Reportedly, Marisol Rodriguez Milian, the mother of one of the sentenced men, expressed gratitude to US authorities, viewing Gonzalez Pedraza’s deportation as a form of “justice.” She described her as unworthy of living in the US due to the harm she caused in Cuba.

Rodriguez Milian reiterated that the prosecution’s case was flimsy, stating that Gonzalez Pedraza attempted to manufacture evidence but failed to produce any. “Partial justice was served,” she remarked, suggesting the judge should face charges in a new democratic Cuba for her role in human rights abuses.

In June 2024, Gonzalez Pedraza claimed that national security in Cuba forced her to impose harsh sentences as a means to suppress dissent against the regime.

Despite her assertions, Cuban national Uziel Garcia accused her of sentencing him to two years in prison for peacefully protesting. He described her as damaging to the community, revealing that he holds a letter of release after being jailed for participating in a demonstration.

Gonzalez Pedraza arrived in the US with her husband and brother in 2024. Her husband was deported recently, and reports indicate that her brother has been detained. Ruber Gonzalez Pedraza is currently held at the Krome Immigration Detention Center in Florida, having opted for self-deportation. It’s noted that he used a Cuban exile charity to further a propaganda blog supporting communist spies.

Before coming to the US, he had erased his online presence while securing his humanitarian parole status.
