Jalen Brunson loses weight as Knicks aim to speed up their offensive play

Jalen Brunson Prepares for Season with New Approach

Jalen Brunson turned up for his fourth training camp looking a bit lighter. While he didn’t disclose his exact weight, he mentioned that he has shed a few pounds over the summer.

“I think it was crucial for me to come in lighter for the season,” Brunson shared after practice on Friday. “It’s not just about being light; I’m feeling toned—that’s key for me. Getting my body in the best shape possible is really important.” It’s interesting how small changes can make a difference, right?

The Knicks are gearing up for a faster style of play this season, which, I suppose, aligns well with Brunson’s decision to lose weight. “It’s all about adapting,” he said, hinting at the adjustments athletes often have to make in their game.

In a related note, OG Anunoby already had a connection with new head coach Mike Brown before the Knicks brought him in to replace Tom Thibodeau. Brown had previously coached the Nigerian national team during the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and attempted to recruit Anunoby to join.

Though complications during the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted their plans, they maintained their relationship. “I was really excited when I heard Mike got the job,” Anunoby expressed. “I’ve known him for a while now.”

Brown himself seems enthusiastic about working with Anunoby. “He’s a great guy, has a good personality. Sometimes it shines through, sometimes… it doesn’t,” he remarked with a grin.

As the year progressed, Brunson launched his new sneakers, the Jaren Brunson X Nike Cove 6 “Statue of Liberty.” It’s nice to see family involvement here too; his mom, Sandra, and his sister Sharia Washington were both teammates at Temple.

Brunson reflected on this achievement: “It means a lot to me that people can wear his shoes and have a little input in them. I’m really excited for this opportunity. His family is just amazing, and I’m very grateful.” Sometimes, it’s the little things that resonate the most.
